U.S. Senate Gift Shop Commissions the Model Subway Cars
Vermont’s Maple Landmark Woodcraft to make series to be sold in Senate Gift Shop
Middlebury, VT—In 2008, it was the Obama/Biden commemorative inaugural wooden train engine, four years later a wooden model of the Presidential limousine, and now a United States Capitol “subway” car, Maple Landmark Woodcraft is becoming the official gift/toy maker for the folks inside the beltway.
This hardwood maple subway car is the first in an eventual series of cars that will be available as souvenirs in the US Senate Gift Shop. The replica subway car measures almost 7-1/2" long and 1-1/4" wide with magnets on each end so when other cars in the series are introduced they can be easily connected. The car’s graphics—red and blue with the Senate logo and all reflect the style of the real open-air US Capitol subway car the takes Senators to and from the Capitol Building.
The original Capitol subway line was built, in 1909, to link the Russell Senate office building to the Capitol. Other lines to the Rayburn Building and the Hart and Dirksen buildings have been added in the proceeding years.
“It’s rewarding to have this product finally come to fruition, especially in such a large prestigious arena,” commented Jill Stackhouse, Maple Landmark Sales Manager.
