Middlebury, VT—By late in 2007, Maple Landmark's business was booming, recalls of foreign made toys were forcing conscientious consumers to look to American made, non big box products to fill their Christmas stockings. "We were so busy, we didn't have time to think about new products for 2008 but we could see there was an emerging, maybe even pent-up demand, for our high quality, child safe, natural, American made toys," remarked Jill Stackhouse, Sales Manager.
Reconfirming Maple Landmark's position, the demand also opened up new avenue for the company. Founder and owner of Maple Landmark, Mike Rainville stated, "we have always tried to produce not only safe products for children but also to give the consumer what they wanted. And as we gained some distance from the craziness of Christmas 2007, we began to work on a product line that met consumer demand." That product line was the Schoolhouse Naturals.™
Schoolhouse Naturals is a product line specifically designed for the 3 and under age set. Everything from building blocks and baby rattles to cars and trucks. Each of the toys is crafted from locally, responsibly harvested maple and sanded smooth to the touch. All of the detailing and decoration is done with a laser engraver so there are no added chemicals. The natural goes one step further by offering all of the products with either no finish or earth-based finishes such as whey, tung/beeswax oil, or natur-oil.
"The Schoolhouse Naturals did so well in 2008 that we wanted to work at expanding the line for 2009," commented Jill Stackhouse, Sales Manager. She goes on to say that "we expanded on items that we knew already worked, instead of creating a whole new category within the product line." The new items include a Basic ABC Block Set, a My First Block Set, along with additions of a recycling truck to the scoot line, and a fourth design of the Push N Pulls.
The Basic ABC Blocks are a set of 16 blocks measuring 1-3/4" cubed with simple kid-friendly graphics. Even though this set is less expensive than the Natural ABC Blocks introduced in 2008 it still has the same high quality and open-ended play features. The Basic ABC Blocks will retail for about $20.00
The My First Block Set is a pared down version of the My Best Block sets. The My First Block Set has 21 pieces with 8 different shapes. Each block is crafted from locally harvested maple and sanded smooth to the touch. The set is sold in a compact cardboard box and retails for $26.00
"Both of the new Schoolhouse Natural products have done well on our retail website. I think we have made a good choice in putting our efforts into this category of products. And we are working on a few other things that will be introduced later this year to compliment the entire line," said Stackhouse.
